A selection of dances from Christmastide, The Courtly Arts Performers of Victoria’s 2018 Christmas Pageant. We presented customs and revelries of Christmastide from Tudor and Stuart England, performed with period instruments and in Renaissance and Baroque period costumes from the collection of our patron Helga Hill OAM.

The European Courtier follows perhaps the most quintessential of European Courtiers, Baldassare Castiglione on his journey through the courts of England, France and Italy around 1500. Nobly born in 1478 near Mantua, he was very well connected indeed. He was cousin to the Gonzaga’s who ruled Mantua and to the Duke of Urbino – who presided over what was recognised as the most dazzlingly sophisticated Court in Italy and indeed the known world. This was the happy crucible in which Baldassare’s courtly skills were honed and the court he served as a much traveled Ambassador. Our performances in May 2019 brought alive music that Signore Castiglione would have enjoyed and dance in which he almost certainly would have participated as he strove to embody the ideal Renaissance Gentleman. Of course all the music for the performance performed by the Early Music Consort with period instruments and by the Courtly Arts Performers in Renaissance and Baroque period costumes from the collection of our patron Helga Hill OAM and the group’s dancers.

A Room in Europe presents chamber Music and Dance from the Baroque Age.

I the stately homes of Europe, friends would gather to present and enjoy musical offerings in a relaxed and intimate setting. Join the Early Music Consort of Melbourne, Baroque dancer Yoko Murakoshi and soprano Sarah Louise Amos to relive chamber music of the 17th and 18th Century. Composers will include Frescobaldi, Lully, Bach and Telemann, performed on period instruments including recorders, viol and guitar.

A selection of dances recorded live during our two performances of A Yuletide Pageant, which was presented in Nov/Dec 2019 by the Courtly Arts Performers of Victoria. The concert constituted a courtly celebration of dance and music spanning four centuries.
